Story Bridge 75th Celebrations

You would not have guessed it was the middle of winter in Brisbane on Sunday as the Story Bridge celebrated its 75th anniversary. With the sunshine on their heads, fans of the iconic, heritage-listed bridge descended in search of culinary delights and a Story Bridge snapshot or two. 

With the bridge closed to vehicles, the feet of 70,000 hungry revellers pounded its pavement. And they weren’t short of selections, our own USA BBQ and Bourbon Bar was there along with the rest of the Eat Street Markets crew to serve up the goods. The lucky guests had 1km of eateries to choose from as they filtered onto the bridge for one of four sessions from 9am.

Held so close to US celebrations for Independence Day, people flocked to us for some American style eats. Eating space was tight, with up to 20,000 people on the bridge for each session, but for those who made it to us the rewards were worth the wait.

If you could go past the Chilli Fries, our Buffalo Wings and PoBoy Shrimp were waiting to tantalise your tastebuds. Some of you also might have been lucky enough to see us put on a show, dancing to the Blues Brothers.

The Story Bridge has made history, connecting the north and south sides of Brisbane for 75 years. Yesterday the celebrations for its anniversary made history again.
